India’s Vaishnavi Adkar began her campaign at the ITF W35 Kalaburagi main draw with a commanding straight-sets victory to headline an eventful day of singles action, while compatriot Laxmisiri Dandu showed tremendous fight against the seventh seed Michika Ozeki before losing in the deciding set.

Third seed Vaishnavi Adkar made a strong start in the first match of the main draw, defeating fellow Indian wildcard Chevika Reddy Sama 6-0, 6-3. Adkar came out firing, dispatching winners with ease before Sama had a chance to settle, racing to a 4-0 lead in no time. Sama attempted to change the rhythm with clever drop shots and forced deuce in the fifth game, but a couple of unforced errors allowed Adkar to maintain control and close out a dominant opening set 6-0.

The second set proved more competitive as Sama’s variation paid early dividends, breaking Adkar in the very first game. However, Adkar immediately raised her intensity to break straight back. The pair traded breaks again in the sixth and seventh games, keeping the contest finely poised. With the momentum hanging in the balance, Adkar produced a flurry of winners to surge ahead 5-3, and after a tough hold under pressure, sealed the match 6-3 to mark an emphatic start to her campaign.

Earlier in the day, qualifier Laxmisiri Dandu produced one of the grittiest performances of the round against Japan’s seventh seed Michika Ozeki. Dandu stunned the higher-ranked opponent by taking the first set 6-4, matching Ozeki shot for shot and capitalising on break opportunities. However, momentum shifted in the second set with Dandu requiring a medical timeout and Ozeki responding strongly to level the match 6-1. Despite Dandu’s efforts to push through, the Japanese player sealed the third set 6-0 to advance.

In other singles matches, Israel’s Maayan Laron proved too strong for India’s Amodini Naik (WC), registering a 6-0, 6-1 win. Uzbekistan’s Milana Maslenkova edged past Germany’s Anastasiya Kuparev in a tightly contested encounter to win 6-2, 7-5. Sofia Suslova overcame Ekaterina Yashina 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 in a dramatic three-set battle, while Sofia Martianova defeated Indian qualifier Arunkumar Lakshmi Prabha 6-4, 6-2. Thailand’s second seed Anchisa Chanta also progressed comfortably with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Great Britain’s Allegra Korpanec Davies.

The doubles draw also got underway with a mix of dominant and closely fought contests. The Indo-Dutch pairing of Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty and top seed Jasmijn Gimbrere advanced with a solid 6-4, 6-4 win over Thailand’s Anchisa Chanta and Thasaporn Naklo. India’s Akanksha Dileep Nitture and Soha Sadiq registered a hard-fought victory over Allegra Korpanec Davies and Eva Marie Desvignes, coming through 6-2, 5-7, [11-9] in a match decided by a tense super tie-break. Meanwhile, Evgeniya Burdina and Sofia Martianova secured a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-4, over the Indian duo of Kashish Bhatia and Vanshita Pathania.

With seeds asserting their authority and Indian players delivering spirited performances across singles and doubles, the ITF W35 Kalaburagi now builds further anticipation with Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty, Ankita Raina and Zeel Desai set to feature in tomorrow’s singles action.
