The ITF W35 Kalaburagi is all set for an exciting main draw after a draw ceremony held in the presence of Fouzia Taranum, Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Kalaburagi, Bhanwar Singh Meena, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Kalaburagi and Shinde Avinash Sanjeevan, Commissioner, Kalaburagi City Corporation today. A strong Indian contingent will feature in the singles main draw, with five Indians battling through qualifying to make it to the main draw, underlining the depth of domestic representation at the USD 30,000 event.
The singles main draw has thrown up several compelling opening-round encounters as third seed Vaishnavi Adkar begins her campaign against Chevika Reddy Sama, while fifth seed Zeel Desai takes on a qualifier in the top half. Eighth seed Ankita Raina is slated to face Sonal Patil in an all-Indian first-round clash, guaranteeing local interest deep into the section.
Meanwhile, fourth seed Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty meets Evgeniya Burdina, and second seed Anchisa Chanta opens against Britain’s Allegra Korpanec Davies. The presence of multiple Indian seeds alongside seasoned international names promises an intensely competitive week.
The doubles main draw at the W35 Kalaburagi is headlined by top seeds Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty and Jasmijn Gimbrere, who will begin their campaign against the Thai pair of Anchisa Chanta and Thasaporn Naklo in what promises to be a strong opening-round contest. Three Indian pairs; Snigdha Kanta and Harshini N Nagaraj, Kashish Bhatia and Vanshita Pathania, and Sreemanya Reddy Anugonda and Sai Samhitha Chamarthi have been awarded wildcard entries, offering emerging domestic players valuable exposure at the ITF level. Earlier in the day, the qualifying draw concluded with several Indians battling for the remaining eight main draw berths.
In one of the most dramatic matches of the day Arunkumar Lakshmi Prabha fought past the first Maria Mikhailova 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 in a closely contested tie-break to move into the qualifying round. Meanwhile second seed Eva Marie Desvignes of Singapore defeated Aahan Aahan 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets.
Third seed Valeria Savinykh proved too strong for Saumya Ronde, registering a 6-4, 6-1 victory. In an all-Indian encounter, Kashish Bhatia edged Mahika Khanna 7-6(4), 6-0, showing resilience in a tight opening set before racing through the second.
Aishwarya Jadhav secured a solid 6-3, 6-3 win over 16th seed Sreemanya Reddy Anugonda to advance. Ninth seed Sandeepthi Singh Rao overcame Karnataka’s Snigdha Kanta 6-4, 6-3, maintaining her composure in key moments.
Elsewhere, 14th seed Laxmisiri Dandu outlasted eighth seed Bela Tamhankar 7-5, 3-6, 14-12 in a gripping match tie-break to seal her place in the next round and seventh seed Anna Sedysheva beat tenth seed Yashaswini Panwar 6-4, 6-2.
With the main draw now officially unveiled and the final qualifying spots on the line, the W35 Kalaburagi is poised for an exciting week of high-quality women’s tennis.
