Local lass and top seed Zynah Amber Salar recorded another superb comeback victory to wear the Girls U-14 crown at the Transform-AITA U-14 CS 7 tennis championship played under the aegis of KSLTA here on Friday. In the final, Zynah tamed giant killer Diya Ramesh of Tamil Nadu in three sets 6-7, 6-1, 7-6.

In a minor upset, second seed Aaradhaya Dwivedi beat the top seed S Ashwajit of Manipur 7-6, (4), 6-3 to lift the Boys title.

The 11-year-old Diya, having felled three seeds on her way to the final, played some superb tennis to match her fancied rival shot by shot which ended in the first set being decided via tie-breaker, which, the Chennai girl won 7-2. The 13-year-old Zynah then pulled up her socks and almost blanked Diya while winning the second set 6-1. After having gained the momentum, the Bengaluru girl suddenly seemed to have lost her way in the decider and was 1-5 down, barely three shots away from defeat. It was then that she fought back brilliantly and was also helped by her opponent’s numerous unforced errors and soon restored parity before the issue was settled in a tie-breaker which she won at 3.

Meanwhile Aaradhaya, who had won the U-14 CS 3 tournament earlier this month, moved across the court well which helped him keep his rival at bay. After an early break in the third game, the 13-year-old student of Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education was 5-3 up before the Manipuri put up a fight and took a 6-5 lead. Aaradhaya saved five set points before dragging the set into the tie-breaker which he won at 4. The second set saw the Bengaluru lad race to a 5-2 lead and won the set easily at 6-3 to pocket the title.
