- Bidar ITF Shifted To Kalaburagi
Published on 19 November, 2015 12.00am IST
The Bidar $10,000 ITF women’s event which was scheduled to be from November 23 at Bidar has now been shifted to Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) due to unavoidable circumstances. When the situation arouse where the event could not take place at Bidar, KSLTA had no other option but to consider shifting to Bangalore or Gulbarga. Cancellation was not an option as it would have put the players into lot of inconvenience and the very idea of conducting these events is to provide opportunity for the players.
Even shifting to Bangalore would have caused hardship to players. With no option left, KSLTA decided to request the Kalaburagi District Administration to host the event at Kalaburagi.
It is mainly due to the efforts of Mr Radhakrishna, Vice President, KSLTA, who held meetings with Mr Vipul Bansal IAS, Deputy Commissioner and a few other officials of Kalaburagi that the local authorities agreed to host next week’s tournament here itself. Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Hon'ble Minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka was extremely forthcoming to bring the tournament to Gulbarga.
Once Kalaburagi agreed, KSLTA Approached AITA to request ITF for the same. ITF has approved the shift from Bidar to Gulbarga after much deliberation.
The move by the Kalaburagi authorities is welcomed by the players who would have to otherwise travel and find accommodation at Bidar all over again.
Sunder Raju, HON. Jt. Secretary of AITA Said "AITA & KSLTA is indebted to Kalburagi District administration and KALABURAGI Tennis Association for coming forward to host the Bidar ITF event at Kalaburagi. When we were at crossroads as Bidar wasn't able to complete arrangements for the event, Kalaburagi has come as a saviour. It's surely not easy to host two weeks in a row but the excitement from Kalaburagi is indeed highly supportive. I thank Mr. Aditya Allan Biswas IAS, Regional Commissioner, Mr. Vipul Bansal IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kalaburagi for extending this hand of support even at the last moment. I earnestly thank Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Hon'ble Minister for Medical Education and Mr. Radhakrishna, Vice PRESIDENT of KSLTA who have been pillars of strength in this situation. The two weeks of International events surely makes Kalaburagi a strong destination on world tennis calendar. I also thank ITF and the players who have happily agreed to continue in Kalaburagi."
The qualifiers for the said tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 21 & 22 November at Chandrashekar Patil Stadium itself, main draw would be from 23 - 28 of this month.
