Fourth-seed Diya Ramesh created the big upset of the day by stunning second seed Haritha Shree Venkatesh 6-3, 6-3 to storm into the girls singles finals of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis (KSLTA) ATF Junior Tour 22 (Under-14) tournament.
In the finals scheduled to be held on Saturday (December 17), Diya has her task cut out as she takes on top seed Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi who thrashed Anvi Punaganti 6-0, 6-0 in the other semifinals.
Coming into the last-four encounter at the KSLTA courts, the form book favoured Haritha, who had defeated Aradhyaa Verma 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
But Diya, who had earned a hard-fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over G D Meghana in the round-of-eight had other ideas as she proved too good for Haritha with her strong baseline game.
Meanwhile there were no upsets in the boys category with top seed Levin Safoor Mydeen entering the final with a facile 6-1, 6-0 win over eighth-seeded Navin Sundaram Rajasundaram.
The boys title clash will see the top two seeds in action with second seeded Showrya Samala defeating fourth-seeded Prakaash Sarran 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 in the other semifinals.
