Arihant Kaul will meet with Yash Panchaxari while Gurleen Khanuja will take on Arzan Khorakiwala in the summit clash in the Boys and Girls category respectively of the KSLTA-AITA TS 7 Under-14 tournament, an event on the Tattvam Junior Tour.
In the semifinals played here at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium here on Thursday, Arihant and Yash registered contrasting wins against their respective opponents – Abhradeep Bhattacharyya and Dhakshish Aryan to enter the final. Arihant was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Abhradeep Bhattacharyya while Yash overcame a fighting Dhakshish Aryan 6-4, 6-4.
Gurleen and Arzan overcame their rivals registering easy wins as Gurleen beat Disha Kumar 6-2, 6-2 while the latter was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Avval Vivekanandan.
Arihant and Abhradeep fought tooth and nail for each and every point and looked to have exhausted their energy, especially in the sixth game. Leading by 3-2, the 14-year-old Arihant took more than 40 minutes to hold his serve, so much so that neither of the players were able to recall as to how many times the game had reached the ‘deuce’ stage. But that was the last time the 9th standard student of Orchids International School struggled in the match. Moving deftly on the court and relying on his strong serve, Arihant won nine of the next 10 games to make his maiden entry into the title round.
The US-based Dhakshish who is on a holiday, had created waves after garnering the U-12 title last month and sending some quality players out of the tournament this week. However, in a topsy-turvy display of tennis, the 12-year-old squandered away the chances after being in an advantageous position in both the sets. After achieving an early break, he went 2-0 up before his 14-year-old opponent Yash won the next five games in a row and was serving for the set at 5-2. In a flash of brilliance, Dhakshish not only saved two set points but won the next two games to reduce the margin. However, the ninth standard student of NPS, Yeshwantpur closed out the set on his serve. The second set saw a determined Dhakshish attack from the front and shot up to a 4-2 lead but once again lost the steam as Yash attacked the net and was successful on most occasions. After levelling parity at 4 and achieving a break in the next, Yash served out for the match.
