Bengaluru, 15 May, 2021

Karnataka lad Kriish Ajay Tyagi will represent the Indian team for the 2021 ITF World Junior Tennis Championship (Under-14) Asia / Oceania Final Qualifying round to be held at the National Tennis Centre in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan from June 7-12 this year.

Kriish was named in the four-man team that was selected by the Junior Selection Committee of All India Tennis Association which met virtually two days ago. The other members include Rethin Pranav RS and Manas Manoj Dhamne with Tejas Ahuja as the reserve player. The team will be captained by Sajid Lodi.

Kriish who is the reigning U-14 National champion, a crown that he wore at the Mumbai Nationals in March this year, said that it was a matter of pride for him to be selected for the Indian team. “I am thrilled to represent the country. Hard work, dedication, and belief is what has gotten me here,” said the 13-year-old student of Silver Oaks International School. “I aim big and thrive to achieve them. I will give my best and try and justify my place in the team,” said Kriish who last won back to back titles in successive weeks beginning with the Asians (U-14) at Altevol Tennis Academy in Ahmedabad followed by a grand double at the Super Series Under-16 at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad in the April, just before the lockdown. “I thank my mother and coach for their extended support which has resulted in my success,” said Kriish.

Congratulating the young lad, Maheshwar Rao, Secretary, KSLTA, said, “On behalf of KSLTA, we extend our heartiest compliments to Kriish for doing our state proud. He is immensely talented and truly deserves the coveted slot in the Indian team. We wish him all the best.”
